The community of San Jose de Payamino is located along the Payamino River 0 deg. 48 S, 77 deg. 30 W almost exactly on equator and the climate is hot and humid.


The average annual rainfall is 4200 mm/year. There is no evidence of a dry season, but monthly rainfall varies considerably with April being the wettest (734 mm) and February the driest (193 mm). Generally rainfall peaks from March to May and again around October-November, but patterns can vary considerably from year to year and location to location.


Day temperatures varies from 25 to 32 degrees celcius and night temperatures around 20-22 degrees celcius. The humidity is high at 94-99 percent.
